(Fragment Chapter 7)

“I’ll bwring David back when I’m done painting him!” I announced, slurring my speech. I set the bust down in the hallway where it would eventually find its way up to my studio. Painting and returning it was something for another day. First, I had to get Ralph and Matt on their way, but, once again, my plan backfired.

The result: at the entrance to Matt’s hotel, Ralph headed for home. I could just make out the hotel’s three yellow rating stars and the dubious white plastic Statue of Liberty used as decoration on the roof. Before I knew it, I was in the elevator on my way upstairs. Matt was getting really close. I noticed his watch said 1:11.
