(Fragment Chapter 7)

“Pep-pedep-pedep-pepepe!” echoed through the vast stone structure. It was Pep the Cockroach, triumphantly flying in circles over Madame Elizabeth and Turpin’s heads. He had six-foot wings and a matching tail covered in sparkling gold and jingling jade and jewels. Pep had built a flying machine out of the treasure that Walter and Michael had returned to him. And now it was his turn to save their lives. The flying machine was hollow on the inside, so there was more than enough room for Pep’s fellow cockroaches, who served as engine.
